Egcodorn Shear Connectors

Reid is pleased to announce the introduction of Egcodorn shear connectors to the Australian construction industry.   Egcodorn shear connectors are comprised of a range of high performance shear dowels used to transfer high shear loads across expansion joints in thin suspended slabs whilst accommodating slab movements from shrinkage, settling, and temperature changes.

Egcodorn shear dowels are manufactured using corrosion resistant stainless steel, can be used in thin slab sections to safely and efficiently transfer high shear loads across joints up to 60mm wide, and can provide movement in both longitudinal and lateral directions.  Installation of the shear connector is easy, with both male and female dowel sections simply nailed to formwork.  This simple process provides huge reductions in set-up times of formwork when compared to alternatives such as corbels.

What should generate interest in even the most conservative of engineers are the new and unique features that these shear connectors provides, many of which having never been seen in Australia before now:

• Unique dowel design: combining a high tensile steel core with a corrosion resistant stainless steel sleeve is a master-stroke.  The Ecgcodorn dowel provides higher load capacities than solid stainless steel dowels, enabling shear transfer options in thinner slabs.  This efficient and optimal design provides corrosion protection whilst increasing load capacity.

• Reinforcement detailing: Reid will provide detailed reinforcement design specifically engineered for the application at hand.   No more additional calculations required when designing with shear dowels.

• Thin Slabs: shear dowels that are suited to slabs down to 160mm thick, providing a simple option for carparks and other thin suspended applications

• Fire rating: product specific fire collars are available to protect dowel connections against failure during fire, supplied with 120 minute fire ratings.  Fire protection joints are also available to provide a complete fire rated joint.

• Acoustic options: Shear dowels (available on request) can provide acoustic decoupling of slabs, stairwells, floors, and walls.  The female dowel section is replaced with a dowel housed in a case filled with sound dampening rubber to achieve acoustic performance previously unimaginable across floor joints.

• Dynamic loads: completely new to Australia, Reid can provide shear dowels designed to resist dynamic loads.  Use in mass-spring dampening situations such as railway bridges and other transport infrastructure.
