Movember

November, otherwise known as Movember, is a month where normally clean shaven men can fulfil their dreams of looking like a bikie or the construction worker from the Village people by growing a moustache and supporting men’s health.  Movember is an International effort (that started in Melbourne) to increase the awareness and raise funds for the often ignored issues of men’s health that include prostate cancer and male depression.  Some of the scary statistics for us men include:

  • 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
  • This year 20,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
  • 1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime

This year Reid had a team of 7 people from the business participating.  These somewhat scary looking individuals included Darren Metzke (his 3rd time around), Alistair Wood (his 2nd time around), Grant Wilson (his 2nd time around), Tristan Wright (his 2nd time around), Henry Ha (first timer), Craig Smith (his 2nd campaign) and Jeff Stratford (his 2nd time around).  To add some excitement to the month, the challenge was also laid down by a fellow employee David Jones that if the team raised in excess of $4,000, he would shave his moustache off.  Luckily, or unlucky for David, the team exceeded the target and David had to shave his moustache.

The Mo-Bro from Shepparton (otherwise known as Darren Metzke) was again in fine form with helping to organise a mo party in Shepparton that included none other than our first bloke, Mr Tim Mathieson.

All in all, Movember was another successful month with the team having raised $6,005.

Thank you to everyone who contributed during the month (including many of our fantastic customers and suppliers) and also to those who had a good laugh along the way.

Until next year – go the Mo...
