On paper, or more specifically on an invoice, the purchase of steel shutters for use in precast may appear to be a fairly cost-effective formwork solution. Sure, it may take a few blokes to carry these lengths around the yard, or perhaps wait for the gantry crane to move them to where they’re needed, but, the fun doesn’t stop there. Once the shutters are in place, the task of fixing them is a simple process of drilling a screw through a piece of steel angle and into your 12mm thick steel bed. Simple enough, right? Don’t forget the stripping of the shutters; unscrewing all the fasteners, plugging or welding the holes, grinding and finally buffing the bed (relatively) flat again. Sound familiar?
