Design is the essential first step in any construction project, and is a multi-disciplinary task in its own right involving architects, engineers, and schedulers.

In addition to in-service construction loads, precast and tilt-up concrete elements are subjected to an additional set of loads when compared to in-situ concrete construction. The stresses involved during fabrication, transportation, lifting and erection can be huge, and are frequently applied to “green” panels and beams – elements in which the concrete has not yet reached its full design strength.

Design for these situations is a specialist skill in its own right, and one which Reid engineers can bring to your design team.  The concrete structure is always on the critical path, and given today’s compressed construction timetables it is not unusual for the structural design team to be working just days ahead of the construction crews – particularly in the vital early stages of a project.
